Dear Matt,

I was visiting your excellent web site today. Will be sending its address to all my friends and relatives before they visit Greece.

Being active in animal welfare, I also checked out your section on Stray dogs in Athens’ I thought you make like to know that the CIDAG petition at the bottom of the article is now complete. Over 48,500 signatures were collected and presented to the Greek embassies in Brussels and London.

The new animal welfare law (Law no. 3170) for companion and stray animals was passed by the Greek parliament in July 2003 and the accompanying by-laws came out in November 2003. The law is not perfect but it goes a long way further than other laws to protect animals in Greece and provides for much harsher penalties for those who mistreat and abandon animals.

Unfortunately there is little indication as yet that the law is going to be enforced and this is of great concern to CIDAG and all animal welfare workers. We have another petition which has just been started and would love your support and the support of all those who visit your web site.

The CIDAG petition for Law enforcement can be found at:

Please help us to help Greek strays.

Regards,

Mary O’Connor

(on behalf of CIDAG)
