Introducing Sotiris and Stavros Dimos

Dimos Jewelery is one of the oldest and most respected jewelry stores in Athens. Located in the heart of the historic district of The Plaka just a few steps away from the Metropolis Cathedral, founder Sotiris Dimos started his workshop in 1968 and focused on recreating historical pieces from 4th century BC, Byzantine period and museum treasures, using centuries old jewelry techniques and creating iconic jewelry that is recognized, respected and admired by jewelry lovers from all over the world. 50 years have gone by since Sotiris Dimos opened his shop and today with three locations in Athens, and his pieces in jewelry stores all over Greece, and in boutiques in the USA, Dimos Jewelers are known for their honesty, customer service, beautiful work and the many friends they have made in the business.

Stavros (Steve) Dimos is the youngest but the tallest son of Sotiris. You could say he was born to be a jeweler and even as a baby his nursery was his father's shop and the sound of hammering gold the lulaby he often fell asleep to. From his teenage years he began making pieces that were revolutionary by the standards of the time. Stavros graduated the Jewelry College of Athens and in 1997 received an award in the National Design Contest for one of his pieces. In 1998 he received the European Certification as Master Jeweler. With his gemology seminars and continued education Stavros has the knowledge to assure a high quality product with a unique yet tasteful design effect that will win a place of honor in your jewelry box. The United States has been Stavros' second home for 20 years and his winters are spent in the many museums and jewelry shows he visits. Stavros and his staff have the personality and sensitivity to help you find exactly what you are looking for, even those who don't know exactly what they are looking for.

The Jewelry

Dimos Jewelry features recreations of historical pieces like those found in the museums, and original pieces based on ancient and Byzantine history in a very wide degree of styles. A large selection of stones from around the world and a lot of original pieces that simply can’t be found anywhere else make this shop a necessary stop for anyone visiting Athens who loves jewelry. The original shop is conveniently located at Mpenizelou Palaiologou 3 which is in both The Plaka and Monastiraki neighborhoods of Athens. The street is right off Adrianou Street which is the main shopping street of The Plaka. If you are coming from the Monastiraki direction turn left and if you are coming from the Plaka direction turn right and the shop is less than a block away. You can also find it by going to the big square where the Cathedral of Athens is located on Metropolis Street. If you come up the famous Pondrossou Street from Monastiraki Square you can't miss it. Next to the Cathedral is a small Byzantine Church called Agios Eleftherios and Mpenizelou Paliologou Street begins right there. This place has unique, high quality jewelry, and the staff are very friendly. I found a beautiful bracelet unlike anything I've seen at other jewelry stores. The owner, Steve, and Nick were so knowledgeable and gave us a great price on a piece of jewelry I'll treasure forever!

Amazing workmanship at reasonable prices
This jewelry store is unique in that the quality pieces are made right there in the workshop upstairs. The quality and beauty is exquisite and the people- Steve, Nancy and Nick- are so personable, too. Some jewelry is fashioned after museum pieces and I believe his work is museum quality! From the moment you enter the store, you know it’s something special. The jewelry has little touches that make it stand out: perhaps a small design on the clasp or well placed tiny balls of gold (placed onto the piece by a meticulous jeweler with a goose feather). The prices are good. One always pays for quality and these prices are fair in my experience. We will be back. I absolutely love my purchases here!

Exquisite jewelry with fair prices!
Owner and staff are very professional and absolutely no pressure. They listen to what you are looking for and show you appropriate selections. They also may take you to their workroom and show you their artisans creating pieces. Really enjoyed shopping experience here and felt that prices were good. Love the ring I bought and they also made me a pair of earrings from a photo that were several hundred dollars less expensive than another place. Thank you for such a great experience.

Unique designs, handmade in their own workshops. Not just run of the mill same old stuff. The owner and entire staff treat you as if you were the most important clients in the world. What a pleasant change. Our family loves them so much that when my son got married last September in Florida he ordered the wedding rings from Dimos. Gorgeous Ring!
On a recent trip to Plaka I had the pleasure of coming across an amazing jewelry store. I was invited to visit the on premise workshop to watch the creation of this gorgeous jewelry. What a treat to see art in progress, because Dimos jewelry is truly art! Stavros, the owner, made the experience of finding my perfect everyday ring (with quite a bit of diamonds and sparkle) very enjoyable!
