Death of the Emperor Tacitus

Emperor Tacitus is ill.
His deep old age was unable to withstand the toils of war.
He is bedridden in the hateful camp,
in wretched Tyana-so far away!

He remembers his beloved Campania,
his garden, his villa, his morning stroll-
his life six months before.
And in his agony he curses the Senate,
the detestable Senate.
